Conference report

Dear Colleagues,

The international one-day conference “Brain Tumors: from bench to clinic« was held at the University Medical Centre in Ljubljana, on the 26th of November 2019. The conference was organized in the frame of the Crossborder Cooperation Programme Italy-Slovenia 2014-2020, in the scope of the project Interreg V-A Italy Slovenia »New glioblastoma therapies via a translational cross border research platform« with the acronym TRANS-GLIOMA.

At the conference, we were discussing about the current challenges in diagnosis and treatment of brain tumors, and also about the newest technological developments. Our lecturers are established and internatially respected scientists and physicians who are active contributors to this research field. We discussed about different approaches for treatment of glioblastoma including surgical resection, classification based on the molecular expression profile of the patient, and also the role of miRNA in gliomagenesis. We presented a diverse panel of scientific achievements ranging from results obtained with different methods at transcriptomic (RNA sequencing) and proteomic (proteins, antibodies and nanobodies) levels, to the newly developing field of biomarkers of liquid biopsies. In the scope of the conference, we also organized the annual meeting of the Interreg V-A Italy-Slovenia TRANS-GLIOMA partners, where we presented the progress of the project and our final product – the GLIObank.

Total of 117 participants took part at the conference, which includes 18 lecturers (7 Slovenian and 11 foreign scientists and physicians). In addition, 10 research posters were presented to the audience.

Spoštovani,

Enodnevna konferenca z mednarodno udeležbo “Brain Tumors: From Bench to Clinic« je potekala 26. novembra 2019 v prostorih UKC Ljubljana. Konferenco smo organizirali v okviru Programa čezmejnega sodelovanja Italija-Slovenija 2014-2020, v okviru projekta Interreg V-A Italija Slovenija »Nove terapije glioblastoma z uporabo čezmejne raziskovalne translacijske platforme« z akronimom TRANS-GLIOMA.
